The zander (Sander lucioperca) is also an invasive species. In this case, it has been present in the Riba-roja and Mequinenza reservoirs since the 1990s. It is a very distinctive fish with very aggressive features, but like other species, it is harmless. The largest specimens can reach over 1 meter in length and weigh more than 10kg.

Techniques and seasons for fishing Zander

There are multiple fishing techniques, although the most commonly used in our area are casting or spinning and fishing with dead sardines. Undoubtedly, the most popular technique among our clients; spinning fishing with multiple lures, depending on the season and time of day, is very active and fun. The smaller perch are usually along the shores, and the attack is very characteristic because it occurs in groups. In deeper parts and with jigging techniques, the larger specimens are usually caught.

Currently allowed in the Ebro river; it improves effectiveness due to the scent released by the bait, although it is not the perch’s usual food, so it does not always work. It is a more static type of fishing, which can be done from the shore or from a boat and can be done with either a float (more at night) or bottom fishing. It is also possible to do spinning fishing with setups like the drachkovitch or the handled dead fish.
